Netflix Picks for April 2018

Can you believe we are in April already? It feels like a never ending winter at the moment but I'm excited to hopefully see some signs of Spring! With that being said, April showers might be more often than sunshine, so here are my picks out of the new additions to Netflix this month.

The Blues Brothers

Pretty shocking that I've never actually seen this! I'll definitely be giving it a watch as it's an absolute classic.

Come Sunday

A new netflix original film about a true story of Bishop Carlton Pearson who went from leading religious congregations to being labeled a heretic. It stars Chiwetel Ejiofor whose been absolutely brilliant and I'm looking forward to watching this.

American Psycho

Again another film I've never seen and I'll definitely be giving this a watch. Starring Christian Bale who always gives a good performance, and it's meant to be really good.

Knocked Up

One of my favourite comedies is coming to Netflix and I'm looking forward to this, even though I know all the words! It's a really good comedy and pretty easy watching.

The Night Before Movie Review | XMAS FILM

The Night Before is about 3 friends who after years of going out on Christmas eve tradition, have decided to do it one last time before Ethan starts his family.

I put this movie on while wrapping presents as I'd never seen it before, plus I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen. It was pretty much what I expected it to be, full of drugs, alcohol and comedy. There were definitely some funny moments and the best lines were the subtle ones rather than the big outlandish jokes.

It had a couple of people I wasn't expecting to star which was a nice touch, and the chemistry between the cast was great. I wouldn't say it's an amazing film but for a modern Christmas film it was decent enough. I probably wouldn't make it a tradition to watch again, however if you are bored of watching Home Alone for the 1000th time this year then it would be worth it as something different.

The Interview Movie Review | FILM

After finding out Kim Jong Un is a huge fan of TV Show Skylark tonight, Dave Skylark and his producer Aaron arrange an interview with the leader himself. However, the CIA intervene and tell Dave and Aaron they must assassinate Kim Jong Un while in North Korea.

I've been excited about this movie for a while, I was excited when I first saw the trailer as I am huge fan of Seth Rogen and James Franco. Then when the Sony hacking started, and the banning of the film, North Korea saying they will bomb every cinema playing this film e.t.c I was even more excited and determined to see this film.

Overall, with all the hype around it and the controversy, it didn't really live up to expectations. However, that wasn't down to it being a bad film, it was like I said a lot of press coverage in the news and had a lot of people who wouldn't have wanted to see it, thinking it might be worth a watch if it's causing this much fuss.

I enjoyed the film, some parts were really funny, other parts were a bit silly however worked with the craziness of killing Kim Jong Un anyway, and I loved the chemistry between Rogen and Franco. I think the landscape was gorgeous and the setting did really look like what you'd imagine North Korea to look like. They played up to Kim's stereotypes (such as him saying about his ankles) and I think at times they portrayed him as a lonely leader who finds it difficult to fill his fathers shoes. I liked how they did that and made him seem vulnerable at times, however they also showed that monster side of him aswell.

Bad neighbours

Bad Neighbours Review | FILM

Yesterday my boyfriend and I saw this film on a bit of a whim, as there was nothing else really out apart from Spider Man 2 and we had already seen that. Plus, he knows I love comedy and am a huge Seth Rogen fan...but who doesn't love Seth Rogen?

Bad Neighbours is about two groups of people. One is the new family of Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne), whose life (and sleeping patterns) get turned upside down when a fraternity move in next door. Teddy (Zac Efron) is president of the frat and Pete (Dave Franco) is the vice. The war then begins on who can get each other out of the house first.

I really enjoyed this movie. I'm a huge fan of all the cast members, and the trailer is a pretty good indication of what time of humour it is going to be. It's got some good laughs and the cast also just looked like they were having fun. I'm glad that Seth Rogen wasn't the only funny one, and Zac Efron definitely kept up with the comedy.

I'd recommend this movie to see if you are like myself and there was nothing else on in the cinema. It's not the best comedy of the year (I prefer the Muppets) and not the best out in the cinema at the minute, however it's definitely got good standing ground and I'd say watch it.

This Is The End - Movie review

This is the end is the 2013 comedy from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the two creators of Superbad. It stars James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson.

The film is set at James Franco's house warming party, where guests face the end of the world. Party guests include Rihanna, Michael Cera and Emma Watson.

This film is hilarious. However, unless you are familiar with the 'Apatow' crew, and films such as Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, and Superbad to name a few, you may not find it as funny or impressive as myself. The film makes a lot of references to past work that each actor has done, even with small references to the first work of Franco and Rogen, Freaks and Geeks. To those that have seen these films, you feel part of the group and are able to be included and emerged into the film. The chemistry of the group is incredible, mainly because they are all best friends and most of the script is improvised. If you are not familiar however, then you may feel like an outsider.

The film does have a 'serious' note to it. Jay Baruchel, convinced that the end of the world is in the biblical form, the group must come to terms with their sins and try to convince the higher power that they are better people, including sacrificing themselves and generally just being nicer towards others. I was surprised at this and wasn't expecting such a religious theme, however it's very small compared to the amount of drug and sex related humour.

For the Apatow comedy fans that haven't seen this movie, I would definitely recommend watching it, however for others, I'd firstly suggest Knocked Up and then you'll know what to expect.
